Purpose of the role
Provide timely, commercially focused legal advice to safeguard Youi’s reputation and commercial interests, clearly communicating legal risks to support informed business decisions within an acceptable risk profile.
Key priorities
- Independently manage a caseload of subrogated public liability and personal injury claims from inception to resolution, escalating complex or litigated matters as required.
- Provide high-quality, commercially focused legal advice on public liability and personal injury matters.
- Draft, review and negotiate legal documents, including court documents and settlement agreements.
- Liaise with and manage internal and external stakeholders, including clients, counsel and experts.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks and ensure accurate, timely claims reporting.
- Review and improve policies, procedures, precedents and processes relating to personal injury claims.
- Contribute to business knowledge, precedents and defence strategies in collaboration with management.
- Proactively manage legal, operational and workplace health and safety risks and support a strong risk culture.
- Promote operational efficiency, regulatory compliance and consistently live the Youi Values.
About you - Experience & Knowledge:
- LL.B and GDipLegalPrac (or equivalent) with an Australian Unrestricted Practicing Certificate.
- 4+ years PAE in personal injury law, currently employed in-house or private practice.
- Strong knowledge of insurance and public liability law, including liability and quantum assessment; both plaintiff and defendant experience highly regarded.
- Experience in managing a dedicated file load independently from start to finish (including attendance at compulsory conferences and mediations). and developing legal defensive or proactive strategies.
- Comfortable working both in-office and remotely; adaptable to change in a fast-paced environment.
- Growth mindset with openness to new experiences and technology-enabled ways of working.

- Strong relationship-building skills, able to manage stakeholders at all levels.

Ways of working
Youi offers a hybrid model: in-office Tuesday to Thursday, remote Mondays and Fridays. Sippy Downs & Fortitude Valley: This role can be based at either our Headquarters in Sippy Downs or our Fortitude Valley office.
